WiFi Technical Specifications

Short for "Wireless Fidelity", WiFi is a networking standard, which allows for wireless internet access and data downloading.

WiFi transfers data over extremely high-frequency radio signals, and is only available when within range of a hotspot. WiFi technology is based on the 802.11 family of networking standards, and uses a radio frequency of 2.4 GHz.

These technical specifications were developed by the Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance (WECA), which is still responsible for certifying new WiFi hardware products as being compatible with the standard.
