Staffing Software Bolsters Earth Sciences Staffing Firm Growth

For almost 20 years, Geotemps, a Reno, NV-based earth sciences staffing firm, has focused on a range of career levels in earth sciences, mining and minerals. Whether it's a geologist or an executive looking for placement, Geotemps handles it - and everything in between.

With continued growth in mind -- and two new offices already planned for this year, Geotemps knew that improving their staffing technology would be critical to the success of their plans. A VCG client since 1996, Geotemps decided in 2005 to migrate from VCG's TempWare-V® to StaffSuite® to apply the latest in staffing software technology to its business processes.

Lance Taylor, President and CEO of Geotemps, states, "While there were other solutions out there, we felt that StaffSuite's robust database offered the most complete solution."

To optimize their business growth goals, Taylor wanted to streamline their current business processes. While TempWare-V was 'getting the job done,' Taylor felt that their growth plans provided the perfect impetus to implement StaffSuite's integrated front and back office functionality.

Kathy Sestanovich, Network Administrator for Geotemps, says, "We've found that our staff can run candidate searches a hundred times faster with our new StaffSuite software. With this capability, we can respond immediately to our clients -- and faster response means winning the business."

Taylor also attributes the speed of the database, a user-friendly interface and the in-depth searching capabilities of StaffSuite to improving the front office operational productivity of their staff. According to Sestanovich, their staff is now much easier to train. Sestanovich states, "We no longer have training issues with our staff. StaffSuite lends itself to quicker and easier adoption by our team." This is typical for customers moving to StaffSuite from other staffing software. In fact, customers have reported that its ease-of-use and familiar interface reduces training by nearly two-thirds.

Sestanovich adds, "VCG's software support team is excellent. They communicate with us at all times. When a case is closed, I immediately get a follow-up e-mail to make sure the issue has been resolved." Such support is unusual in the software industry, yet is standard for VCG, where independent surveys of customers have rated VCG's support services as 'excellent' -- well above industry standards.

Geotemps knew that they would have to migrate their information and VCG provided a smooth transition because of VCG's data migration team. Additionally, both Taylor and Sestanovich were impressed with the implementation consultants that guided them through the process.

Because Geotemps focuses on a range of career levels, they needed a database that could quickly code a potential employee's skills. Their VCG consultant suggested some ideas to deal with this issue and Geotemps implemented them. This customization enables staff to quickly enter a person's skills without any hassle.

Looking to the future, Taylor continues to look for ways technology can support and assist with the company's growth.

Taylor states, "We are planning on adding the StaffSuite WorldLink® module to our software and I am very excited about the integration of our Web site to our database. It will enable our online image to reinforce the technological advances we are making."

It's easy to see that Geotemps is a forward thinking company, but it is also a company that contributes to that future. Taylor says, "Geotemps focuses on employee development. We consider ourselves 'career counselors' and we are very dedicated to supporting the earth sciences industry's development."

Taylor is a supportive member of the Advisory Board to the Mackay School of Earth Science and Engineering at the University of Nevada in Reno, and is also a member of the board of trustees for The Northwest Mining Association. Add numerous other industry association memberships and support in grass root efforts in their area and you can see why Geotemps has been successful for twenty years. VCG's staffing software will help them to continue that market success.
