YOU ARE WHAT YOU DO!

In life, we always make choices. In fact, on of the most alarming conditions of our moral society today is how mothers choose whether to have their baby born or not. This is especially true to mothers with unwanted pregnancies.

However, when we make choice we must possess something so as to empower us to make the right decision. That is ìself-empowermentî or the ability to give power or strength to oneís own self. It is mostly needed in times when people want to live their life with an implication of reason and conscientiousness.

For this reason, we can clearly say that what people do with their lives, they should always be accountable to whatever consequences that will happen. It defines manís basic meaning in life; therefore, it only goes to show that man cannot always get away with something that he or she has done.

Basically, God created man above all things with intellect and will so that he will know how to make the most put of his life. God gave him conscience to tell him if what he has done was right or wrong. That is why there is always the saying, ëYou are what you do!î This because you know what is right from wrong, therefore, whatever it is that you do would always be accounted on you.

For example, a person cannot deny that he is an alcoholic if he doesnít drink liquor. If we donít lie, then we must not cheat. If we just hang around, then, that means we donít have a purpose or goal in life. If we claim we are righteous, then, we should never do what is wrong. In this manner, it is assumed that even if we deny about something, our actions will always show and reflect the kind of person we are.

So, where does ìself-empowermentî sinks in? How can people say they our self-empowered when they do not know what it is or how it is acquired?

If you are conscious of what your purpose in life is; if you know why you are here on earth; if you know what to do with what life has to offer; then, even if you are not yet determined to do something about it, you are in a continuous struggle between sharpening your consciousness and fortifying your level of ìself-empowerment.î

The phrase, ìYou are what you do,î deals more of our attitude towards life, how we deal with problems, and how we face the consequences of our actions.

Take for example the situation where in people are devastated by calamities. At certain point, there are people who would go out of their way helping everyone to the best of their abilities. If they donít have the means to do so, they would seek help from those who can. That is a positive attitude of helping people. Because they chose to help, the things they have done showed how they sympathize with the victims and expressed their empathy.

On the other hand, there are those who do not care at all. Even if they contend they do, the fact that they have not done anything to alleviate the victims from their present situations is already an enough manifestation of who they are in life. If they chose to be passive and apathetic with the people around them, then, it means that they donít care. I believe that they donít even care if that happens to their family.

Then again, some people may ask, for those who were able to help other people, was it only possible because they have something to offer? What if they donít have the means to help other people, would they do the same?

The answer is yes, if they have the confidence and the willingness to help even if they too need help. That is the power of ìself-empowerment.î

These entire things boil down to the point that people should realize that whatever they do reflects the kind of person they are. So, in order to realize all these things and be sensitive to whatever actions you do, make it a habit to always reflect each hour on things that you have just done. Contemplate on it, whether it had been good or bad.

The bottom line is that, it would be better if we stop complaining and blaming each other of whoís who. What we must do is to mull over on some things before we do them. As the old saying goes, ìIf you donít have anything good to say, donít talk.î Itís that simple.
