What to do One Day before Thanksgiving

Tomorrow is the day, your home will be filled with tantalizing aromas and guests will be arriving to share the day with you. You should make a final check of you Thanksgiving planning calendar to be sure that you have not over looked anything from the previous weeks. If something has been overlooked this is the day to deal with it, not on Thanksgiving when you have a house full of people.

One day before Thanksgiving:

Set the table. A few days ago you set out all your linens, china, silverware and crystal. It is now time to set the table. If you have a center piece arrange it now. This is also a good time to do any last minute decorating you may be planning. Set out candles for ambience or rearrange chairs for football viewing. Simply put get the house ready for your big Thanksgiving celebration.

Make sure you have room in a closet for extra coats and boots. If need be set up space in a spare room to accommodate bags and coats.

Today is the day to bake your apple, pecan and cherry pies. They will easily keep until tomorrow and have a wonderful flaky crust.

Purchase and prepare any fresh vegetables or salad you will be serving tomorrow. If you rinse your lettuce and dry it well you will be able to make up your salad now. Wait to put on any dressing. The dressing will wilt the leaves of your salad if put on too early. Store your fresh salad and vegetables in the refrigerator until time to serve.

Review your menu for Thanksgiving Day and do any last minute shopping you may have. If you are serving a fresh turkey today is the day to pick it up from the butcher. If you are serving pies baked in a bakery today is the day to pick them up.

Plan your cooking schedule for tomorrow. How long will your turkey take, and how long will the rest of you casseroles and sweet potatoes need. If you will be heating pies to serve these can go in after you have begun to serve the meal.
